Riparian Ramble Loop Walk
Sunday, April 21
10:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
Description: Join Naturalist Jerry Hightower on a hike among the spring wildflowers and wildlife and learn more about the area’s natural and cultural history. This is a leisurely hike along a very level floodplain. Like much of the river corridor, this area has been used by humans for over 10,000 years. Perhaps farmed for centuries, Native Americans once lived on this land. It was the site of Judge Eugene Gunby’s horse farm. Today, it boasts a returning young bottomland forest and important river bottomland wetlands. Many birds call this area home. You will see old water oaks, river birch, and sycamores along the river's edge. We will discover plants used by the indigenous people and early settlers for food, medicine, and dye. Join us and discover this wonderful wildlife viewing area.
