WEST PALISADES / AKERS MILL UNIT of the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area (CRNRA)
(ORIGINALLY SCHEDULED FOR THE EAST PALISADES/WHITEWATER UNIT)
We are sorry we must change the location of the January 21, 2023 Community Hike originally planned for East Palisades/Whitewater.
West Palisades/Akers Mill Unit of the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area (CRNRA)
Our moderate to strenuous hike will cover 4.5 – 5 miles, with several steep, up-hill, rocky sections. Hiking poles might be helpful for some hikers.
After hiking the Akers Mill trails to Sandy Point beach, and along the floodplain, we will hike up steep hills to the ridges in the Paces Mill unit, loop along the river and return to our cars at Akers Mill.

1. On Akers Mill Road, turn at the 20-foot waterwheel.
2. Drive 0.3 miles on Akers Drive SE.
3. Turn left at the National Park sign 33° 53' 26.52" N, 84° 27' 7.7" W
4. Drive 0.4 miles on Akers Ridge Drive SE to the parking lot 33° 53' 29.8" N, 84° 26' 40.1" W
There is a $5.00 per day fee to park at the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area. Or use your annual CRNRA pass or an America the Beautiful pass.
This event will take place rain or shine, however it will be rescheduled in the event of severe weather including thunderstorms or flood warnings. Participants will be notified by email the morning of the event (or sooner) should an event need to be rescheduled due to weather.
