Our history is deeply interwoven with the history of the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area (CRNRA) itself. Our incredible park came to life thanks to the vision and hard work of passionate people and organizations who saw the Chattahoochee River and its greenspaces as more than just beautiful scenery, but also as a sanctuary for wildlife and a gathering place for the metro Atlanta community. Their dedication laid the groundwork for preserving this special place where recreation, education, and conservation come together.

Chattahoochee National Park Conservancy (originally named Chattahoochee Parks Conservancy) was established in 2012 as the official nonprofit partner of the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area. CNPC was formed to address the increasing need for support, resources, and advocacy for this treasured urban greenspace, which stretches along 48 miles of the Chattahoochee River in metro Atlanta.
In its early years, CNPC focused on engaging the community and raising awareness about the park's significance. Initial efforts included organizing volunteer cleanups along the river and trails, hosting educational events to inform the public about conservation and recreation, and partnering with local organizations to promote stewardship of the park’s natural resources.
These early initiatives not only fostered a sense of community, but also laid the groundwork for CNPC’s long-term mission to enhance the park’s trails, preserve its ecosystems, and ensure that future generations can enjoy this unique natural space.
As CNPC grew, so did its impact. Key milestones in its history include:
In 2024, CNPC completed a comprehensive strategic plan to guide its future efforts, structured around five key pillars:
As CNPC celebrates over a decade of service, it remains committed to its mission of ensuring that CRNRA continues to thrive as an accessible, enjoyable, and preserved national park. From trail improvements to member engagement initiatives, CNPC is constantly evolving to meet the needs of its growing community while championing conservation efforts for future generations.
CNPC’s work is only possible because of the generosity of supporters like you. Your contributions directly fund essential projects, like trail restoration, river cleanups, and educational programs that benefit millions of park visitors each year.
