Tiny Monsters and Little Frog Fridays at Sope Creek

Friday, August 23rd

6:30 - 8:30 PM

Drop by and join Park Ranger Jerry Hightower for this fantastic, fun-filled discovery adventure at Sibley Pond! There are amazing creatures living in the waters of Sibley Pond. Become pond scientists and look through the wet leaves collected at the pond's edge for the aquatic stage nymphs of dragonflies and damselflies along with weird and wonderful insects of all sorts. Find tadpoles, minnows, newts, and scuds! Learn about the tiny but fierce pond predators, life cycles, and more cool facts about the living pond community. This is an exciting and fun activity for persons of all ages. Identification guides will be available so that you can identify the “tiny monsters” you have found. This is a casual and informal activity; you may come and go as you please.

Facilities: Nearby at Terrell Mill Park.

Difficulty: The walk from the parking lot is very short.

Bring: Dress for the weather and wear comfortable shoes suitable for walking on a forest trail. Dress in layers so that you can adjust to changes in the temperature and activity level. Bring water and you might include snacks. Note: A daily entrance fee or annual pass is needed.

Limit: 40 persons

Heat warning: As summer temperatures soar and heat incidents increase across the park, CNPC urges attendees to stay safe by being well-prepared for high temperatures. Please bring plenty of water (often more than you think you'll need!), list a reliable emergency contact, and know your limits. Be aware of the serious signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke, including heavy sweating, dizziness, nausea, and confusion. Events may be canceled if temperatures become too extreme. Your safety is our priority.
